Operation of the facility started in 2006 when the first experiment was established. The Experiment 1 (Exp. 1) was established to quantify the effects of different amounts of rainfall on above- and below-ground production and nitrogen uptake and nitrogen mineralization (2006-2010). The Experiment 2 (Exp. 2) was established to observe the combined effect of drought and UV-radiation on morphological, production and physiological parameters of selected plant species of mountain grassland (2011-2014). The experiment 3 (Exp. 3) was established in 2017 to quantify the effect of drought in combination with warming and land use (mulching).

Relevant Research Questions

The infrastructure is focused on drought experiments combined with other factors such as UV radiation, warming or land use. The main objectives of these experiments are to investigate and compare the drought and interactions with other factors in grassland ecosystem in the point of view of future climate scenarios.

Close connection to Experimental station Bílý Kříž (glass domes for CO2 fumigation experiments) and ICOS ecosystem station Bílý Kříž. Possibility of accommodation in facilities of the Global Change Research Institute close to the site.

Relatively limited space for extension of experiments. The relatively large distance from laboratory facilities of Global Change Research Institute in Brno (ca 205 km).
